As one of my favorite bands growing up, Deftones are sort of grandfathered into all of my favorites lists. “Gore” is deserving, though. I need not make crazy arguments for its benefit, because it’s a return to form for them.
Old-school Tones fans should not shrug this release off. It’s a promising effort with a lot of great material within.
One of my favorite singer-songwriters, Brett Dennen, somewhat silently released a follow-up to “Smoke and Mirrors” this year. While it’s not quite as spectacular as his previous releases, the charm is still very present.
In general, if anyone is into chill pop rock music to have on in the background of any situation, you should have Brett Dennen all up in your playlists.
Whenever there is a Best Of… countdown, Radiohead is never too far. While I expected this album to be much higher on the list at the beginning of the year, it sort of faltered for me as the year progressed.
That’s probably due to me getting tired of it and because of the many great albums that came out later in the year.
